History
Nigeria's current national anthem, 'Arise O Compatriots,' was adopted on October 1, 1978, replacing 'Nigeria We Hail Thee' which had been used since independence in 1960. The lyrics were selected from entries submitted in a nationwide competition, with contributions from five Nigerians combined to form the final version.

Arise O Compatriots, Nigeria's call obey / To serve our fatherland / With love and strength and faith / The labour of our heroes past / Shall never be in vain / To serve with heart and might / One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.
