Oyo State is located in the south-western part of Nigeria. The state capital, Ibadan, is the largest city in Nigeria by land area and was once the most populous city in sub-Saharan Africa. The state is home to the historic Oyo Empire, one of the most powerful empires in West African history. Major tourist attractions include the Agodi Gardens, the University of Ibadan (Nigeria's first university), and the ancient city of Oyo-Ile.
